Hozelock Auto Reel vs Fast Reel: Which Should You Choose?
The important difference is how you put the hose away. A Hozelock Auto Reel uses a spring-loaded mechanism to rewind the hose. A Fast Reel still needs you to turn a handle; its automatic feature is the way it layers the hose onto the drum. Choose around the job you want the reel to do, rather than assuming both names mean automatic rewind.
| Feature | Auto Reel | Fast Reel |
|---|---|---|
| How it rewinds | Spring-loaded automatic rewind. | You turn a winding handle. |
| Hose layering | Automatic. | Automatic layering while you wind. |
| Position | Our listed Auto Reels are wall-mounted. | Wall-mounted and freestanding versions are listed separately. |
| Reach in our listings | 10m, 20m, 30m and 40m options. | 40m hose on the two Fast Reel listings. |
Choose Auto Reel for automatic rewind
If turning a winding handle is the part you want to avoid, start with the Hozelock Auto Reel. Pick the length from the product selector and check its availability. Measure the route from the proposed wall position, including corners and obstacles, rather than measuring a straight line across the lawn.
Automatic rewind still requires care. Guide the hose back under control instead of releasing it to fly into the reel. The mounting position also needs to work for everyday access and removal for winter storage.
Choose Fast Reel for handle winding with guided layering
The Fast Reel's winding handle turns the drum while its integrated guide lays the hose in orderly layers. This may suit you if you are comfortable winding by hand but want help keeping the hose organised. It is not the same mechanism as an Auto Reel.
Compare the wall-mounted Fast Reel with 40m hose with the freestanding Fast Reel with 40m hose. Check current stock on each page. A freestanding version and a wall-mounted version should not be treated as interchangeable simply because both contain the same length of hose.
Measure the mounting space as well as the hose route
Allow space to reach the controls and, for a Fast Reel, use the winding handle comfortably. Follow the relevant installation instructions for the supporting surface, bracket and fixings. Think about the route to the tap too: a feeder hose connects the reel to the water supply and is separate from the main watering hose.
Compare the complete setup
- Choose enough watering length without unnecessary bulk.
- Check supplied hose, feeder hose, fittings and fixings on the selected listing.
- Decide whether automatic rewind or a winding handle suits you.
- Plan a dry, suitable winter storage space.
- Compare the selected variant's price and delivery charge.
